Debunking: Hardware implementation is more important than software in EV Industry

In the realm of the electric vehicle industry, hardware implementation is undeniably crucial for executing vital tasks. However, there is a strong belief that hardware holds more importance than software implementation in the EV industry. The growth and advancement of technology in the EV segment underscores the importance of software, which extends beyond hardware implementation in the dynamic landscape of the EV industry. For instance, Tesla Model 3 cars use an iPad-like display integrated with software controls, setting them apart from the rest of the EVs in the industry.  

 

Here's why software implementation is considered important in the EV industry: 

 

  1. Charging Points: Charging points, especially smart charging points, can be termed "smart" due to the backend platforms enabling data connections between a car, charger, and the energy provider. This facilitates seamless operations even during high demand or any issues. 

 

  1. Software Applications: With software applications, EV users can not only start charging but also receive billing information from the comfort of their phones. This functionality also allows users to reserve their desired charging network in advance, making it simpler to access the charging network at their preferred time and with specific individuals. 

 

  1. Managing and Operating Vehicles: Since electric vehicles lack a mechanical engine, software plays a pivotal role in managing and operating them. It enables the monitoring of vehicle performance, identification of any weak spots, and, with software updates, it can continually impact environmental considerations, passenger safety, improve customer satisfaction, and may even facilitate wireless charging in the future. 

 

In a nutshell, software acts as the heart of the electric vehicle, helping monitor and optimize the battery. Additionally, it manages the electric motor and other components to deliver smooth and efficient power delivery. With continuous software updates, electric vehicles (EVs), batteries, and the charging network can improve continuously and adapt to new technologies, making them more cost-effective and user-friendly than traditional Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles. While traditional ICE vehicles relied solely on mechanical engines, their implementation of software was not as extensive. With the evolution of the EV industry, experts are developing techniques that maximize the utilization of software, making navigation and control more straightforward than before. When it comes to electric vehicles, the significance of software implementation surpasses that of hardware, acting as a catalyst in enhancing the overall mobility needs.
